Poetry Writing Residency
This workshop is unique in that it focuses on raising students’
self-esteem, improving decision-making and exploring career choices while
teaching the mechanics of writing poetry. Through the use of role-plays,
interactive games and positive quotes, students feel safe to have fun
and learn. Students will write original poetry from themes selected by
the instructor as well as themes of their own choosing. Every session
includes collaborative writing, individual writing and sharing of students’
work.
Goals For Residency

Students write different forms of poetry (ballad, haiku, limerick,
etc.) |

Students demonstrate understanding of different beats and rhythms
of limericks |

Students understand metaphor and similes |

Students explore and demonstrate presentation skills |

Students develop effective communication skills (tone, words, body
language) |

Students complete 7 poems on various topics and in different forms
(15 sessions or more) |

open, clear, deliberate communication in order to be resolved. Do you
